Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed this week’s news that the park and ride facility at Glan Clwyd Hospital will continue operating for another year.
The parking scheme, which runs from the former Hotpoint factory site in Bodelwyddan, has proved extremely popular with patients and visitors who often struggle to park in the hospital’s onsite carpark.
With a review of parking demand and capacity at the hospital now nearing completion, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has decided to retain the park and ride service beyond March 31, 2020, pending the progression of a business case to Welsh Government for additional new parking capacity on site.
Welcoming the extension, Darren, who has previously called for the facility to become a permanent feature of parking arrangements for staff, patients and visitors, said:
“I am delighted that this service is to continue for another 12 months.
“Hopefully by the end of the 12 months the Health Board will have sorted additional new parking capacity on site, although I don’t understand why they can’t work with the Welsh Government to secure a long term future for the park and ride. It is clear from the many messages from my constituents that it is convenient and valued by many patients and staff members, although I have always maintained that it would make much more sense for the Health Board to make this park and ride service available for the staff, freeing up parking for patients on the site”.
