Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has challenged a Welsh Government Minister over the A55 roadworks which are causing problems for businesses and motorists across North Wales.
People are currently experiencing long delays and tailbacks caused by the road maintenance works and the Welsh Government have been slammed for their lack of communication over when and where the work is taking place.
Speaking in the Senedd this week, Darren, who has been contacted by dozens of angry motorists, called for a Welsh Government statement on the roadworks.
He said:
“I call for a statement from the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport on the A55 resilience programme, which is causing problems across the whole of north Wales, and damaging the economy. There are miles and miles of cones across the A55, but there appears to be precious little work taking place.
“Presumably the works were planned well in advance, including the dates on which different parts of the road would be affected, yet these dates have not been properly communicated to motorists and the result is chaos with people not being able to get to work on time and potential customers aborting their journeys causing local businesses to lose out.
“I would like a statement from the Minister to know precisely what her department does to ensure that the disruption to traffic is absolutely minimal.”
The Minister for Finance and Government Business, Jane Hutt replied: “We regret inconvenience, but the resilience and the improvements will have a beneficial impact in terms of the economy.”
