Clwyd West AM Darren Millar is warning residents in Conwy and Denbighshire to expect a hike in their council tax and cuts to public services following yesterday’s announcement that the two local authorities are to receive a higher than average cut in cash support from the Welsh Labour Government.
The Public Services Minister confirmed that council’s across Wales will experience an average 3.4% cut, however Conwy faces one of the largest cuts in Wales at 4.3% (£4m) and Denbighshire will also experience a higher than average cut at 3.7% (£5.3m).
Darren said:
“It is disappointing that once again local authorities in North Wales are among the hardest hit by these reductions in Welsh Government support.
“These cuts will inevitably lead to further cuts in services and I am concerned that households in both Conwy and Denbighshire will see yet another increase in their council tax as a result.
“Since 1997, council tax in Labour’s Wales has rocketed by over 150 per cent to date. People can’t cope with any more hikes and the Minister should have considered this before slashing budgets yet again.”
