Clwyd West AM Darren cut the cake at an event on Friday to mark the 10th Anniversary of Abergele’s Itaca…
Itaca… is a wonderful free IT and internet facility at Hesketh House on Bridge Street where young people can call in during school holidays and after school and register to use state of the art technology and pc's and learn new skills. There is also a coffee and snack bar in which they can relax and meet friends.
The fantastic facility was developed in 2005 by a group of volunteers - adults and young people - known as Abergele Youth Action using a range of funding sources including Objective 1, Welsh Government and the Big Lottery.
There has also been generous support from the Abergele community for this project, including the Town Council and various local businesses. The project continues to progress in response to local need.
Darren said:
“I was delighted to attend this event and to cut the cake to mark this very special anniversary. I have watched Itaca develop over the years and I am extremely proud that this fantastic facility is in my constituency and is benefitting so many of our local young people.
“I would like to congratulate all those who have been involved in its success, particularly Linda Tavernor whose hard work and dedication to this project knows no bounds. I wish her and the team continued success for the future.”
Linda Tavernor, Youth and Community Development Officer at Abergele Youth Action, said: “It was very encouraging to see so many people here in support of our 10 year anniversary celebrations. The work of Itaca... has grown from strength to strength since we first began in Hesketh House in 2005 and we are now looking forward to developing our services to the community even further over the next 10 years.”
