Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed news that Conwy County Council will not be axing free school transport for pupils travelling from Towyn to Abergele.
Last week Darren wrote to the local authority urging it to reverse its plans to scrap the free service for dozens of Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan pupils.
The council was arguing that as the children live within three miles of the Abergele school, it is not obliged to provide transport.
However, outraged parents were concerned about the cost of paying for transport and were worried that their children would be forced to walk along the busy coast road to school.
Darren said:
“I am absolutely delighted that Conwy County Council has now agreed to reinstate free home to school transport for all pupils from Towyn with immediate effect and that charges for pupils living less than three miles from the school are to be scrapped.
“This arrangement has only been made possible due to the financial assistance of Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan which has been secured by the Headteacher, Mr Lee Cummins, so I am sure all parents would like to join me in thanking Mr Cummins for his support on this issue .
“The local authority will write formally to parents in the near future to confirm the new arrangements.”
