The future of a Ruthin care home is up for discussion by Denbighshire councillors.
Denbighshire County County has announced that it is exploring options which could result in either the potential closure or sale of Awelon in Ruthin as part of a strategy which could see it withdraw from being a direct provider or residential care.
Councillors will have the final say on any decision which will be the subject of discussion in coming months.
Clwyd West AM and Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar said:
"Although no definite decision over the future of Awelon has been made as yet, staff and residents will clearly be unsettled by this development.
“It is crucial that they are fully informed of any proposals and that they have the opportunity to have their voice heard by decision makers at the council.
"Awelon has played an important part in the locality for many years and the local community will also be seeking to have their say on the future of the home.
"I have already been in touch with the council to seek reassurances that due process will be followed and the the interests of residents will be paramount."
He added:
"This news is surprising given the recent development of sheltered housing on the Awelon site."
