The Older People's Commissioner for Wales visited Clwyd West on Friday and toured Abergele Hospital with Clwyd West AM Darren Millar before meeting an Age Connects group in Pensarn.
The Older People’s Commissioner for Wales is an independent voice and champion for older people across Wales, standing up and speaking out on their behalf.
Darren, who is Shadow Minister for Older People, said:
“It was great to welcome the Older People's Commissioner for Wales, Sarah Rochira, to my constituency and to show her around the fantastic hospital we have here in Abergele. I know the older patients at the hospital appreciated her visit and the opportunity to voice their concerns about issues affecting them.
“As well as visiting the hospital, Sarah also met with the Age Connects group in Pensarn , which aims to change attitudes to ageing and thereby improve people’s lives, where again members welcomed the chance to highlight matters affecting them.”
Darren added:
“With the percentage of Welsh people aged over 65 now the highest since census records began, it is more than clear that it is vital that the needs and views of older people are placed at the top of the agenda.
“The Commissioner's work is driven by what older people say matters most to them and their voices are at the heart of all that she does. I would like to thank her for coming to Clwyd West and listening to our older people here.”
The Older People’s Commissioner for Wales said:
“It was wonderful to be back in North Wales again for a visit to Abergele Hospital with Darren Millar AM, older people’s spokesperson for the Conservatives, to speak with older patients about their experiences and meet with some of the hospital’s dedicated staff.
“I was also pleased to have the opportunity to meet with older people at Canolfan Dewi Sant in Pensarn, to talk with them about my role and answer questions about the ways in which I am working to drive change for older people across Wales. Many thanks to Age Connects North Wales for organising such a useful and informative session.”
