Commenting on the case of a North Wales constituent who collapsed after being trapped in an ambulance in searing heat while waiting to be taken home from hospital, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Health Minister, said:
"I am horrified to hear that a patient was left trapped in an ambulance on a day of soaring temperatures, which were so severe that he then needed further medical attention on top of his reasons for travelling to hospital in the first place.
"We regularly hear warnings that dogs should not be locked in cars in searing heat and it’s disturbing that on this occasion ambulance staff didn’t think this also applied to vulnerable elderly patients.
"We need to know if the crisis in Welsh emergency care, with full A&E departments, axed beds and staffing problems, has contributed to this event.
"This was a traumatic experience for Mr Richards, an indignity that no patient should be forced to endure.
"Labour Ministers and ambulance chiefs must get a grip and ensure that this never happens again."
