Two North Wales AMs, who are calling for plans to downgrade maternity services at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan to be scrapped, are inviting members of the public to have their say at a public meeting next week.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar, who is Shadow Health Minister, and Vale of Clwyd AM Ann Jones will be hosting the meeting in St Asaph Cathedral next Thursday evening at 7pm.
Darren said:
“The removal of obstetric and gynaecology doctors from Glan Clwyd’s birthing unit has prompted a huge backlash from the community as families fear the consequences of the decision taken by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The strength of feeling was clear at the recently held protest in Rhyl when thousands turned out to object.
“It is crucial that people are given every opportunity to make their views known, which is why Ann and myself have organised this meeting. We are expecting a big turn out, so I’d advise anyone planning on attending to arrive in plenty of time.”
Ann Jones said:
“The health board have retracted their original 18 month timescale and services will now be reinstated within 12 months or sooner, but babies and mothers will still be at risk.
“Expectant mothers need to feel safe going in to hospital, they don’t want to spend their entire pregnancy worrying about the birth.
“We must remain strong in our fight against these changes. Many have already voiced their concerns, but we want to give people another opportunity. We have heard the opinions of politicians and medical professionals, I look forward to hearing the public’s views at next Thursday’s meeting.”
