Concerns have been raised regarding the lack of progress in developing a new neonatal intensive care centre at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
Shadow Health Minister and Clwyd West AM Darren Millar raised concerns in the Assembly Chamber and called for a Welsh Government statement.
Following a long-running battle by campaigners, the First Minister announced last year that a new North Wales ‘Sub-Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre’ would be developed at Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyydan to serve very small and sick babies in the region. But little progress is being made on the new facility.
Darren Millar AM said:
“I was delighted last May when it was announced that this new centre would be based at Glan Clwyd Hospital and at the time urged Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to develop the facility as soon as possible. It is therefore extremely frustrating that we are now nine months on and very little appears to have been done.
“It's high time that we saw some action from NHS chiefs to deliver the new neonatal centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital. We cannot afford to let this project slip.
“Both the health board and the Welsh Government need to make good on their promise to develop this new centre as soon as possible.”
