Entrepreneurs in Clwyd West are getting a helping hand thanks to a £310m UK Government-funded initiative.
The Start Up Loans Company provides start-up support in the form of a repayable business loan together with a business mentor for entrepreneurs across the UK.
To date it has provided 13 loans in Clwyd West amounting to £88,334.67.
Start Up Loans is funded by the British Business Bank and have so far backed over 27,000 businesses, lending over £140 million.
It was launched in Wales in October 2013 and since then has provided a business loan and mentoring support to 819 individuals, lending £5,173,558.
James Shepherd is one of the business owners the company have supported in Wales. James and his wife, Natasha, started their biscuit business, Aberffraw Biscuits, with the help of a Start Up Loan. The couple set out to bring the UK’s oldest biscuit, the Aberffraw biscuit, believed to have originated from 13th Century Anglesey, to the masses. They developed their own recipe for the age-old shortbread in their Conwy Bakery and now employ two people from the local area.
