Clwyd West AM Darren Millar is urging those against plans to close a rural Church school in Denbighshire to make sure they have their say before it’s too late.
The deadline for responses to Denbighshire County Council's consultation on the proposed closure of Ysgol Llanbedr ends on the 28th July.
In a meeting at the beginning of June, Denbighshire’s Cabinet agreed to proceed to formal consultation on the proposal to close the 150 year old Church in Wales school on August 31st 2016.
The original proposal was to close the school on August 31st last year, but at the end of January, the Welsh Education Minister, refused the proposal, much to the delight of parents, pupils and staff. However within just weeks of that decision Denbighshire County Council dropped the bombshell that it would again be considering closure. It is the first school in Wales to undergo a double consultation on its future.
Darren said:
“I know that many supporters of Ysgol Llanbedr have already made their views known to the council, but I am keen to ensure that those that haven’t done it yet send in their views in as soon as possible.
“It is vital that Denbighshire’s cabinet members listen carefully to the opinions of local people and that the social contribution of Ysgol Llanbedr to the local community is not disregarded.
"Local education authorities have a duty to listen and I'll do everything I can to make sure that the views of both parents and pupils are properly considered before decisions are taken.”
The consultation document is available at: www.denbighshire.gov.uk/consultations<http://www.denbighshire.gov.uk/consultations> and responses to be sent to: FAO Modernising Education Team County Hall, Wynnstay Road, Ruthin, LL15 1YN or modernisingeducation@denbighshire.gov.uk
