Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has condemned Denbighshire County Council for proceeding to seek a further consultation on the closure of Ysgol Llanbedr just weeks after the Education Minister overturned their previous decision.
The original proposal was to close the 150 year old school on August 31st last year, but at the end of January, the Minister, Huw Lewis AM, refused the proposal, much to the delight of parents, pupils and staff.
Campaigners were hopeful this was an end to the matter and on Friday held a celebratory event at the school. Today’s news will come as a devastating blow to the local community.
Darren said:
“The decision to proceed to seek a further consultation on closure is an insult to pupils and parents and we will not give up the fight to secure the future of the school.
“I’m surprised that the Council has decided to seek closure so soon after the Minister overturning their previous decision, it smacks of sour grapes rather than a local authority making decisions on the basis of what is best for the education of children in the area.
“I look forward to working with the school, the Church in Wales and the local community to see these plans scrapped once and for all.”
Cllr Huw Williams said:
“I am angry that the Council is resurrecting its plans so soon after the Minister's decision. Wasting money on such
